The Role
Tom Cox Gallery is seeking an experienced Gallery Manager to join its team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the gallery. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in gallery management, excellent organisational skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. An understanding of contemporary art and interest in developing art markets will prove valuable to the position.
The candidate will be expected to work from the gallery two to three days per week between Thursday to Sundays, and asked to do additional hours for events.
Open Hours 10am-5pm Wed-Sat / 11am-4pm Sunday.
Tom Cox Gallery
Founded in 2021 by British artist Tom Cox, Tom Cox Gallery has been captivating art enthusiasts and is quickly establishing itself as a destination for contemporary art in South London. Focusing on outstanding local, national, and international artists, the gallery showcases artworks through a diverse programme of exhibitions and events throughout the year.
During the week the space serves as the Director’s art studio, and from Wednesday to Sunday it opens its doors to the public as a contemporary art gallery.
Key Responsibilities:
Gallery Management
· Engage with visitors and potential buyers, providing excellent customer service and personalised art consultations.
· Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the gallery’s artists, artworks, and exhibitions to actively promote and sell artworks in line with sales targets.
· Actively grow and accurately maintain the gallery CRM system, sales records and mailing list
· Physical hanging of exhibitions within the gallery space
· Liaise with artists to ensure contracts are signed, artworks are delivered on time for exhibitions, and artists are kept up to date on sales.
· Assisting with the development of the gallery events programme.
· Work alongside the director and external consultants to create content for social channels, uploading and scheduling content to coincide with exhibitions and events.
· Represent the gallery at art-related events, fostering connections within the art community and promoting the gallery's artists and initiatives
Gallery and Studio Administration
· Ongoing maintenance of the website via Squarespace, including uploading artworks to the shop, ensuring stocks levels are updated, uploading event copy and imagery to Eventbrite.
· Oversee the logistics of artworks from point of sale to packaging, couriers and deliveries. This will include coordination of artists deliveries to gallery, shipment of artworks to customers as well as the storage and transfer of artworks between venues. (You will not be expected to deliver artworks yourself)
· Ensuring all new artworks are catalogued through photography and post-production editing on software such as Photoshop / Affinity.
· Assisting with studio tasks such as stretching and priming canvases, painting frames, and framing limited edition prints.
· Oversee the regular deep-cleaning team and ensure waste and general cleaning is managed on a day-to-day basis.
· Manage the gallery email account, ensuring emails are responded to promptly and with the highest level of customer service
Requirements:
· Minimum 2 years of experience in gallery management or a similar role within the art industry
· Experienced user of: Excel, image editing software such as Photoshop/Affinity
· Flexibility to work evenings as required for gallery events
· Knowledge of infrastructure within a commercial gallery context
· Excellent communication, with the ability to interact effectively with staff members, consultants and customers
· Organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple
priorities and deadlines
· Fluent in English, other languages are an advantage
· High level attention to detail
· Familiarity with and interested in the developing art market
Renumeration
£14ph base plus performance based sales commission.
